Being Comfortable on Camera

If you’re shy being in front of the camera,

but you would like to start practicing getting in front of the lens, this post is for you.

Experts say that showing your face when recording a video is important for communicating key messages and building trust. Yes… it can be very intimidating (I completely understand), but here are some tips below that can help you become more comfortable on camera and perhaps better share your message or story with the world. Let’s do this together.

Find Your Light

One of the most important things to do when getting comfortable on camera is to find the right light. If the light is too harsh, it can be unflattering and make you feel uncomfortable. If the light is too soft, it can make you look washed out. The best way to find the perfect light is to experiment with different lighting set-ups until you find one that makes you look and feel your best.

Know Your Angles

Another important tip for getting comfortable on camera is to know your angles. Everyone has a good side and a bad side, so it's important to find out which side of your face looks best on camera. Once you know your best angle, stick with it! This will help you feel more confident and relaxed in front of the camera.

Practice Makes Perfect

The best way to get comfortable on camera is to practice. Record yourself speaking about topics related to your passion(s), industry, or company, and then watch it back multiple times. This will give you the opportunity to critique yourself. You can listen to how your voice sounds and see what body language works best for you when delivering a message. You'll also be able to identify any areas that need improvement, such as speaking too quickly or using filler words like "um" or "like."

Be Yourself

The best way to get comfortable on camera is to just be yourself. Don't try to be someone you're not or put on an act – just be yourself and let your personality shine through. Remember there is only ONE of YOU in this world. Show people your authentic self. This will help you to relax and feel more comfortable in front of the camera, which will ultimately result in a better video.

Getting comfortable

It’ll take time, effort, and practice but getting comfortable in front of the camera is definitely possible.
